NetBSD Gets Multi-Core Support Working For ARM

NetBSD developers have finally managed to enable SMP support for modern ARM SoCs.

The Banana Pi, Cubieboard 2, Cubietruck, Hummingbird A31, Cubox-I, and Nitrogen6X are now among the ARM boards with working multi-core support on the latest NetBSD code. These multi-core ARM support changes are being worked on for NetBSD 7.0 to make it what the developers call "the ARM SoC release."

NetBSD is still trailing Linux when it comes to ARM hardware support but at least it's continuing to evolve and give ARM users more open-source OS choices. Find out more about the multi-processor ARM support for NetBSD via this blog post.

NetBSD 7.0 is also going to be big for finally having ported DRM/KMS drivers.
