The Gizmo Explorer Kit has been available for a while now as an open-source, mini x86 development board to compete with the many ARM development boards available to consumers and developers. The Gizmo 2 has now been announced as the second-generation development board. Like the original Gizmo, the Gizmo 2 is powered by an AMD SoC with Radeon graphics.

The Gizmo 2 is built around AMD's GX-210HA dual-core processor with Radeon HD 8210E graphics. This SoC has a 9 Watt TDP. The Gizmo 2 features 1GB of DDR3-1600MHz memory, onboard Gigabit Ethernet, two USB 3.0 ports (and two USB 2.0 ports), microSD storage, mSATA / mini PCI-E, AMD debug header, and is all packed onto a 4 x 4 inch form factor. The Gizmo 2 is both supported by Linux and Windows 8 Embedded.

The Gizmo 2 is priced the same as the original Gizmo kit at $199 USD. Those interested in purchasing this small development board with AMD G-Series SoC can do so at Element14.com. You can learn more about this x86 platform at Gizmosphere.org.
