As a follow up to this morning's article about The Next Mesa Release Doesn't Have Any Major OpenGL Breakthrough, Mesa 11.1 has now been branched and the first release candidate has been sent off.

Mesa 11.1 is now branched in Git as 11.1 since no major OpenGL version advancement has occurred to warrant the version bump to Mesa 12.0.

Following the branching, Mesa release manager Emil Velikov sent off Mesa 11.1-rc1. Weekly release candidates will happen until the official stable release takes place in mid-December.

Mesa 11.1 has a plethora of changes as I'll summarize in an upcoming Phoronix article along with delivering more comparison benchmarks.
