OpenGL 4.5 For The Intel Mesa Driver May Be Imminent
Intel has been rapidly advancing their OpenGL 4.x support and OpenGL 4.5 is even in sight now.
Kristian Høgsberg today landed GL_KHR_robustness support in the i965 DRI driver, a requirement for OpenGL 4.5.
The only other extension needed for OpenGL 4.5 is ARB_ES3_1_compatibility, which shouldn't be a problem since the i965 Mesa driver already has OpenGL ES 3.1 support. Then for the OpenGL 4.4 blockers there was the ARB_enhanced_layout patches sent out last night by Timothy Arceri. There are also some SIMD32 compute patches that still need to land but are available in patch form currently via Francisco Jerez. Am I missing anything else? If so, post away in the forums, but that seems to be the major material left to land.
If all that work can land in Mesa soon, there's OpenGL 4.5 for Intel on Broadwell and newer this summer. Nouveau's NVC0 Gallium3D driver is also very close behind with its Kepler support followed by the RadeonSI driver for AMD GCN GPUs.
