The hard code freeze for GNOME 2.28.0 is coming up soon with the final release of this feature-update to GNOME coming out at the end of this month, but available now is the GNOME 2.28 release candidate. GNOME's Vincent Untz writes, "having
tried 2.27.92, I think we have something good there. Actually, better than just good." The GNOME 2.28 release brings various new features and improvements (along with bug fixes and new translations) to the various modules from the desktop to mobile space.

Those interested in more information on the GNOME 2.28.0 Release Candidate can hit up the GNOME mailing list for details and source download links. The final release of GNOME 2.28.0 is scheduled to come on the 23rd of September, which is the desktop environment that will be found in the forthcoming releases of Fedora 12, Ubuntu 9.10, and others. After this release the bulk of work by GNOME developers will then turn to GNOME 3.0.
