OpenBenchmarking.org: Now Powered By PTS 6.0-Hammerfest
While a brand new interface to OpenBenchmarking.org is set to launch later this year in tandem with the Phoronix Test Suite 6.0 debut, a big underlying step forward was made this weekend.
OpenBenchmarking.org is now powered off the latest Phoronix Test Suite 6.0-Hammerfest Git code. Previously, the OpenBenchmarking.org build was based on Phoronix Test Suite 5.2 and hadn't been re-based since much of the PTS 5.x cycle was just centered around Phoromatic improvements. With Phoronix Test Suite 6.0 Git having some significant improvements for all code-paths, the re-basing of its Phoronix Test Suite library has happened to the 6.0 stream. There were just a few intentional API breaks between 5.2 and 6.0 that had to be worked around, but everything should be in good shape now.
What this means for OpenBenchmarking.org users or even just Phoronix.com readers is that the experience should now be faster and the graphing is much improved. Where OpenBenchmarking.org ties into Phoronix Test Suite, there's been many speed improvements when it comes to test profile parsing, result file handling, and result merging, among other areas. The grapher and the PTS SVG implementation has also been improved to better optimize the SVG generation, which will mean smaller and more efficient graph sizes, which benefits normal Phoronix traffic too since all of our result graphs are embedded from OpenBenchmarking.org. In some cases, the size of the SVG graphs are halved compared to the older code.
So internally things should be a lot better while users benefit from speed and less bandwidth use. If you encounter any regressions or problems with the re-based OpenBenchmarking.org, please let me know. Stay tuned for the new OpenBenchmarking.org UI -- and new features, including the restored search functionality -- to come with Phoronix Test Suite 6.0's official debut later this year.
I'm also hoping to move OpenBenchmarking.org off to its own server too for greater speed and search capabilities and expansion. If you'd like to support the work being done on open-source benchmarking, please consider subscribing to Phoronix Premium or making a PayPal tip. For now at least, OpenBenchmarking.org continues to be ad-free.
