Besides today being an exciting day in that AMD has finally fixed the screen tearing issues with the Catalyst 11.1 binary driver (albeit at the cost of increased video memory usage and additional latency), KDE desktop fans can be more excited as version 4.6 of the KDE Software Compilation has been released. KDE 4.6.0 brings many new improvements and features to the Plasma Workspaces, KDE Applications, and KDE Development Platform.

Among the changes to explore within KDE 4.6 is the faceted browsing within KDE's Dolphin file manager, a lighter-weight KDE Platform to further drive the mobile experience, Plasma Netbook advancements, and much more.

The KDE 4.6.0 release announcement with all of the details can be found at KDE.org. In its usual manner, KDE 4.6.0 will be succeeded by monthly point releases until the release of KDE 4.7 in six months time.
