Just days after announcing KDE SC 4.7.2 and then the weekend announcement of releasing Plasma Active One, the KDE community has this morning announced a ownCloud 2.

OwnCloud is the KDE-led cloud computing effort that is a web-based storage application similar to Dropbox and Ubuntu One, but where the user is in full control of the data.

With ownCloud 2, the service has been improved and there's continued work on being able to access files from the web or within desktop file managers, secure file sharing, music and personal information access through applications, synchronization support, and greater user support.

Information on ownCloud 2 can be read from dot.kde.org or the official release announcement on ownCloud.org.

The ownCloud 3 release is planned for early 2012.
