The Phoronix Media server infrastructure is being upgraded this weekend with the likely transition taking place on Sunday.

In trying to reduce page-load times, allow the OpenBenchmarking.org search and other features to be re-enabled, etc, the servers will begin their upgrade process this weekend. We're going from some Sandy Bridge Xeons to new Haswell Xeons.

The new base model are dual Intel Xeon E5-2620 v3 processors (each 6 cores + HT; 2.4GHz base frequency; 3.2GHz turbo frequency), 96GB of DDR4 system memory, 800GB Intel S3500 SSD, 2.0 TB SATA 3.0 HDD, and also an upgrade on the bandwidth side to an unmetered 500Mbps connection. This should turn out to be a huge improvement! In the process we're also getting native IPv6 support.

Stay tuned for more details and the switch-over of the site to take place hopefully on Sunday with minimal downtime. If you're curious about the performance of this dual Intel Xeon Haswell server, I did post some basic benchmarks to OpenBenchmarking.org using the open-source Phoronix Test Suite benchmarking software.
