PHORONIX TEST SUITE
Today marks the release of the third development milestone release of the upcoming Phoronix Test Suite 6.6-Loppa version.

Phoronix Test Suite 6.6 development so far has brought stress-run benchmarking improvements, initial support for colored text output in the terminal, and an assortment of other improvements.

With today's Phoronix Test Suite 6.6 Milestone 3 release there is now support for displaying text results in-line within the CLI directly after the test run. When no display server is present, the web browser prompt doesn't show. The Phoronix Test Suite has long offered a phoronix-test-suite result-file-to-text way of viewing test results from the CLI/terminal while now finally an option was added to show this text-based result viewer in the case where no browser support / display server is prevent to avoid having to run this command manually.

Phoronix Test Suite 6.6 Milestone 3 also has a basic HTML result exporter module that's automatically loaded via EXPORT_RESULTS_HTML_EMAIL_TO= or HTML_RESULTS_HTML_FILE_TO= environment variables. This allows dumping very simple, pure-HTML results to either an email address or file, without any dependence on XML parsing and the rest. It's very simple for those wanting results to email without having to setup Phoromatic, etc. It's also a easy demonstration of those interested in writing their own PTS modules as another real-world example.

As part of the work on that module, a new SVG DOM back-end was added to lower common SVG elements into pure HTML. The main use-case here is for showing result graphs inline of emails with most email clients / web browsers not supporting embedded SVG in emails. This HTML back-end is currently a work-in-progress and there's some glaring issues right now with text alignment but should be fixed up soon for those wanting basic HTML graphs and tables for emails/browsers without SVG. This new HTML back-end also serves as a basic example if someone wanting to make say an HTML5 back-end for converting pts_Graph output into HTML5 canvas and JavaScript.

Various other fixes and improvements are also part of the Phoronix Test Suite 6.6 M3 release. You can download our open-source, cross-platform benchmarking software via Phoronix-Test-Suite.com or GitHub. Phoronix Test Suite 6.6.0 will be officially released in September.
