PlayStation 4 System Compiler Support Landing In LLVM

Support for Sony's PlayStation 4 game console code generation is landing within LLVM's open-source compiler infrastructure.

It's long been known that the PlayStation 4 runs on FreeBSD and Sony is using LLVM/Clang as its code compiler as well as its game partners via the PS4 SDK. Up to now the PlayStation 4 LLVM support was closed-up, but support for this latest-generation game console is beginning to land in mainline LLVM.

Sony developers have landed improvements into LLVM previously while some interesting commits today are for teaching Clang about the PS4, defaults for code generation, and other work is in the process of landing.

Alex Rosenberg, the manager of Platform Architecture at Sony, has requested code ownership of the PS4 target as they begin landing patches to open source the Sony PlayStation 4 system compiler.

These changes will be found in LLVM 3.7 considering that LLVM 3.6 has already been branched for release next month.
