Qt 5.5 Alpha Is Getting Close, But Still Behind Schedule

Qt 5.5 looks like it will be another release that's going to be delivered slightly behind schedule.

While there's the Qt 5.5 feature freeze, Qt 5.5 Alpha still hasn't been released. Qt 5.5 Alpha was expected on 17 February and then delayed to 24 February, but as of this morning still wasn't ready for shipping. An update this morning on the Qt 5.5 Alpha status shows some blocker issues have been resolved but there's still some outstanding items remaining.

Eklund Iikka of Digia / The Qt company said there's been some compilation fixes merged since the last update but some missing items include integrating the Qt3D module into Qt5 Git, QtLocation compilation failing, and a fix for failing network tests. No updated release plan was given in the mailing list post but hopefully this alpha release is just a few days out.

Qt 5.5 Beta was supposed to come on 19 March but that too will probably be pushed out. At the moment the official release schedule still pegs the official final release date as 5 May. While it's running late at the moment, Qt 5.5 should be very much worth the wait with numerous new features to Qt 5.5.
