VULKAN
One of the latest fun projects making use of Khronos' Vulkan API is a port for Quake 1.

If you have some time to kill this week, vkQuake is a port of Quake 1 to the Vulkan API for graphics rendering. The Quake 1 code is derived from QuakeSpasm, a popular open-source Quake project.

The developer of vkQuake, Axel Gneiting, tweeted, "My Vulkan Quake 1 Port running 'In the Shadows' mod. Some stuff still missing." This Quake Vulkan port should be working on Linux.

Axel is an engine programmer for id Software and did this Quake 1 port in his spare time. At id Software, he's one of the developers responsible for porting the Doom (2016) game to Vulkan.
