RadeonSI Now Officially At OpenGL 4.2 Compliance
As the last update of the day from AMD RadeonSI Gallium3D Is Now Incredibly Close To OpenGL 4.3, things are looking great with RadeonSI soon hitting OpenGL 4.3 but today the latest commits have now verified the OpenGL 4.2 compliance.
Nicolai Hähnle of AMD landed another commit today to Mesa Git that indeed enables OpenGL 4.2 for RadeonSI on AMD GCN GPUs. RadeonSI is the first Mesa/Gallium3D hardware driver to reach OpenGL 4.2 compliance.
Before getting too happy and just cloning Mesa Git master, be aware that for OpenGL 4.2 to work you must also be running LLVM 3.9 SVN/Git code. The latest LLVM AMDGPU back-end changes are necessary for this OpenGL 4.2 support otherwise only OpenGL 4.1 will be exposed. LLVM 3.9.0 will be officially released later this year for those stuck to stable releases.
For a nice look at the OpenGL 4 state by the different open-source drivers, visit MesaMatrix.net. The OpenGL 4.2 specification was published back in 2011.
For the forum goers, any bets when compute shaders will land for RadeonSI OpenGL 4.3?
