Offchip Tessellation Lands In Mesa For RadeonSI Gallium3D
Earlier this month I wrote about much faster tessellation coming for AMD's RadeonSI Gallium3D driver and now that code has landed.
With Mesa 11.3/12.0 still not having been branched from Git master, there are more improvements still coming about for this next Mesa 3D update. As written about earlier in May, the "offchip tessellation" patches for RadeonSI show much faster performance in Unigine Heaven -- a demo heavily using OpenGL tessellation -- where the 14 patches allow Heaven to run around 40% faster. These patches also boosted the Shadow of Mordor performance by around 40%.
Those offchip tessellation patches are now in Mesa Git thanks to the work done by Bas Nieuwenhuizen over the course of several commits that landed a short time ago.
Some fresh benchmarks of tessellation-heavy tests forthcoming!
