RadeonSI Lands Primitive Binning Support For Vega
With a goal of increasing performance, AMD developers have added support for primitive binning to the RadeonSI Gallium3D driver. However, it's not yet known if it will actually help the RX Vega performance.
"GFX9" graphics hardware, a.k.a. Vega and the forthcoming Raven Ridge APUs, now have support for primitive binning within RadeonSI. But the primitive binning code is tuned for Raven APUs and it's not yet been tested on Radeon RX Vega hardware to know if it will actually increase performance as expected or possibly hurt it.
Primitive binning was added today with this commit. It does add new R600_DEBUG options of nodpbb and nodfsm options for disabling the primitive binning modes.
I should be running some fresh Radeon RX Vega Linux benchmarks this week so it will be interesting to see how the performance is impacted.
