Eben Upton has announced today the latest Raspberry Pi board: the Pi Zero. This board will set you back a mere $5 USD.

The Raspberry Pi Zero features a Broadcom BCM2835 SoC that is clocked at 1.0GHz for its ARM11 core, there's 512MB of LPDDR2 SDRAM, micro-SD card slot, mini HDMI socket, micro USB sockets, 40-pin GPIO header, and its all on a form factor of just 65 x 30 x 5mm. The Pi Zero is available today in the US and UK for just $5 USD.

You can find out more about the Raspberry Pi Zero via the launch announcement at RaspberryPi.org.

I've already ordered a Pi Zero myself. However, at Adafruit in the US the $5 model was already sold out... I ended up having to buy the $30 Pi Zero starter pack (includes some cables, etc) as it was still in stock, but then with another $10 for shipping as the base level, it ended up being close to a $45 1GHz ARM + 512MB computer board. Benchmarks will come as soon as it arrives.
