While some are pondering the state of SteamOS and Steam Machines rumors, Valve has put out SteamOS Update 153 after being in the Alchemist Beta state for the past week.

SteamOS Update 153 brings updated graphics drivers in the form of NVIDIA's 343.22 release and AMD's Catalyst 14.9 driver. Sadly, there isn't yet the Catalyst 14.12 Omega driver nor the NVIDIA 346 Beta series.

SteamOS Update 153 also rebases against the Linux 3.10.60 kernel, improved performance of timing system calls for 32-bit applications, and a fix for XCOM: Enemy Unknown not gaining focus on startup. SteamOS Update 153 also carries varous security/bug-fix updates from the Debian 7.7 archive.

More details via this SteamCommunity.com posting of the 153 release that happened just moments ago.
