The first release candidate is out today of the SuperTuxKart 0.9.2 open-source racing game inspired by Mario Kart.

SuperTuxKart builds off its huge update from last year that brought an OpenGL 3 renderer and more. With SuperTuxKart 0.9.2 there doesn't appear to be as much engine-side work, but there is now support for TTF fonts in their font handling system, support for recording races, and other functionality improvements.

SuperTuxKart 0.9.2 is set to bring a number of new tracks, new audio, and more. Sadly not making it for the 0.9.2 release is the networked multiplayer code. That support for the network mode in STK is being delayed for another release.

More details on today's SuperTuxKart 0.9.2 RC1 release can be found via the STK blog.
