Raptor Engineering has published new information around their proposed high-performance Talos Secure Workstation that for around $3k is a high-end POWER8 motherboard.

With the latest changes, Raptor Engineering has dropped the motherboard price down to $2,700 USD but it's at $3,700 USD for a system with an eight-core POWER8 CPU included. In an email to Phoronix, Raptor Engineering mentioned they are about two-thirds the way to their minimum amount needed to make the manufacturing of this POWER8, open-source-friendly motherboard a reality. If they don't secure another third more orders (unfortunately, no elaboration on the actual sales numbers), they can't move forward.

Also new to their Talos Secure Workstation site is a rendering of the proposed Talos board, a FAQ page to provide more information on the project, and other additions.

If you're interested in a fully-open system and are able to pay $3,000+ USD for such a system, you can find out more via the TALOS project site. Some of my earlier Talos Workstation benchmarks I was able to do of a prototype system remotely can be found here.
