LINUX GAMING
For years Unigine has been producing some of the best Linux (and Windows) tech demos / benchmarks. Going back to the days when there were few quality games on Linux, they were doing terrific OpenGL tests and stressing Linux GPUs/drivers like crazy. Fortunately, they're going to be working out another test soon.

Unigine Tropics, a beautiful OpenGL Linux test back in 2008.

The past year Unigine Corp has been working on their Unigine 2 engine upgrade. Unigine 2 will make use of OpenGL 4.5, adds C# support, adds Oculus support, and brings other renderer improvements.

Unigine Valley is the company's current flagship test, but will hopefully soon be outdone by a beautiful Unigine 2 demo.

Unigine 2 is going to be quite exciting. It's not clear yet if any major games will decide to take advantage of this advanced cross-platform engine, but for our benchmarking fun, at least they'll be putting out a radical tech demo for once again setting a new level of dominating graphics processors and drivers.

I was told a few days ago by Unigine Corp that they right now are concentrating on finishing up Unigine 2 and preparing for SIGGRAPH next week, but there may be some news to share in September.

These days there's more games/tests available that can serve as automated benchmarks like the Metro Redux games and Shadow of Mordor, but Unigine's tech demos remain among my favorites thanks to their continued support for Linux over all these years, being distributable outside of Steam, and fitting all of my other automated testing requirements, plus the tech demos tending to look outright gorgeous -- assuming your GPU and graphics driver can handle them!
