As of last night, the Ubuntu 15.04 Cloud daily ISOs have switched to booting with systemd by default rather than Upstart.

With Ubuntu Cloud switching over to systemd by default, it also means that the Ubuntu CI (Continuous Integration) infrastructure is too now using systemd for carrying out all package testing.

Ubuntu Cloud is the first official Ubuntu Linux flavor to have switched over to systemd by default as a replacement to Upstart. Canonical is still planning to switch the vanilla Ubuntu boot process to systemd by the time of April's Ubuntu 15.04 release. This Launchpad bug is tracking the work for switching the system init process to systemd past the Ubuntu Vivid Verbet feature freeze window.

Ubuntu 15.04 is planned for release on 23 April. Confirmation of the Ubuntu Cloud systemd transition was just posted to ubuntu-devel-announce.
