UBUNTU
Mir, Canonical's display server for Unity 8 that's currently in use by Ubuntu Touch, is now under development for its next major version.

Within the Mir development code, the version has now been bumped for developing Mir 0.14.

For those not caught up with all of your Ubuntu news reading on Phoronix, Mir 0.13 brought a lot of exciting new features and updates. Mir is getting into shape and there's a lot on the horizon as outlined in all of the Ubuntu Online Summit news this week.

However, it will still be a while before being the default on the desktop with Ubuntu 16.04 LTS next year expected to come still in Unity 7 + X.Org and Unity 8 + Mir spins for the desktop. It's also still not known yet when the proprietary AMD and NVIDIA Linux graphics drivers will support Mir (and Wayland), but stay tuned to Phoronix for updates.
