Canonical posted a video today showing the state of running a Unity 8 session with Mir while supporting legacy X11 applications that lack a Mir back-end.

Shown running on Unity 8 + Mir is LibreOffice, GNOME's Gedit, and Firefox. Ubuntu developers continue making progress on supporting legacy X11 applications on Mir, since while there are GTK and Qt back-ends for Mir, there will be a lot of software out in the wild that doesn't natively support Mir.
