Many Ubuntu Phone Updates Are Coming Up Soon

Revealed today during this first full day of the Ubuntu Online Summit for Ubuntu 15.10 were some of the roadmap items and features coming soon for the Ubuntu Phone.

Among the work coming soon is a new settings UI with privacy settings for the web browser, improved interaction and visuals of top sites, improved scrolling smoothness, enhancements to search suggestions from the URL bar, proper saving and restoring navigation state between runs, and noticeable performance improvements in generating tab previews. In this Ubuntu Phone update due out before month's end are updates to the address book too with a new settings panel, importing contacts from SIM, and an improved first-time user experience.

Among the work further out for over the summer to Ubuntu Phone are plans for supporting .M3U files, media hub playlist support, USB tethering and hotsupport support, BlueZ 5 Linux Bluetooth support, NFC support, private browsing support, bookmark folders, new keyboard layouts for the on-screen keyboard, and much more. Some of the smaller items include supporting filters/effects for the camera app, alarm snoozing support for the alarm clock, a wake-up timer, shell rotation support, scope filters, in-app purchases support, thumbnailer improvements, and much more. There's also plans on moving the UI stack over to Qt 5.5.
