VMware this morning announced Workstation 12 Pro and Workstation 12 Player with a variety of virtualization improvements for Windows and Linux.

VMWare Workstation 12 brings support for Windows 10 as well as the latest Linux distributions, an enhanced graphics engine, improved performance, support for 4K/UHD, and an assortment of other enhancements.

The enhanced graphics engine of VMware Workstation 12 includes support for DirectX 10 (on Windows) and OpenGL 3.3. This OpenGL 3 support for Linux comes via updates to the VMWgfx DRM driver and Gallium3D that were published recently. The kernel-side code will come for Linux 4.3.

The improved performance is said to yield 3x faster suspend/resume of encrypted virtual machines, 36 percent faster 3D graphics, and other speed boosts.

More details via the VMware's press release and the Workstation features page.
