Wayland & Weston 1.7.0 Release Brings Valentine's Love To The Linux Display Stack

Wayland 1.7.0 along with the reference Weston 1.7 compositor were released in the early hours of the morning as a great Valentine's Day gift to open-source users wishing to run the next-generation Linux display stack. The Wayland/Weston 1.7 release continues polishing up the stack as an alternative to the security-ridden X.Org Server.

Wayland 1.7 features improvements to documentation, some improvements to the Wayland test suite, and various bug-fixes throughout the code. Bryce Harrington took over the Wayland 1.7 release manager role and he's been doing an excellent job at it, including at providing lengthy and thorough release announcement.

Weston 1.7 meanwhile landed the Wayland Presentation Extension, the introduction of "roles" in the Wayland world, Libinput 0.8+ now provides Weston's input needs, the IVI Shell landed, testing improvements, and a large number of bug fixes. The release of Wayland/Weston 1.8 is meanwhile planned for next quarter with a likely debut in late May.
