WAYLAND
Wayland 1.8 along with the adjoining Weston compositor update were released over the night by Bryce Harrington of Samsung.

Wayland 1.8 is bringing a new scanner option, new headers (wayland-client-core.h and wayland-server-core.h), and other changes. Weston 1.8 meanwhile has been focused on the IVI shell, EGL modernization, repaint scheduling work, named outputs, and other offerings. It's another step forward for Wayland/Weston but there isn't anything really jaw-dropping about the Wayland 1.8 release.

You can read more about Wayland/Weston 1.8 via Bryce's release announcement.
