WAYLAND
Sway is an open-source tiling window manager that supports Wayland and is fully-compatible with the i3 configuration files.

Drew DeVault, the maintainer of Sway, wrote into Phoronix this evening to share his work on this new tiling window manager for Wayland. He explained in an email:
i3 is a popular tiling window manager for x11, but the developers have explicitly said they are not interested in porting it to Wayland. There's a project called i3way, but it's vaporware and most agree that it's an attention grab from the "author" of the project. Sway is a window manager written from scratch that's directly compatible with i3, meaning you can straight up copy the i3 config file into the sway config directory and it'll work as expected.

It's getting to the point where it's usable for every day use (I'm composing this email from a sway session now)
Sway is short for SirCmpwn's Wayland window manager.
