As a nice Christmas present for those dependent upon running Windows games/applications on Linux, Wine 1.8 was officially released just moments ago!

Wine 1.8 was developed over the past year and a half. The release mentions that Wine 1.8 is made up of over 13,000 individual changes.

The Wine 1.8 release notes cover some of the highlights for today's release. There's also my Wine 1.8 feature overview looking at the changes throughout the Wine 1.7 development series.

Wine 1.8 marks the project's first stable release under their new approach of yearly, time-based releases.
