The release candidate for X.Org Server 1.19 should be cut today and that will imply the feature freeze for this latest major update to the long-standing X Server.

On Friday, Keith Packard cut a xorg-server 1.18.99.2 version as preparation for the RC1 being done tomorrow (today). This 1.18.99.2 version was just about giving people a chance to look over the changes in case any patches were missed or other last-minute API breakage considered.

Per that change-log, X.Org Server 1.19 so far is made up of over 580 changes!

Some of the new features for xorg-server 1.19 include the Windows-DRI extension, modesetting DDX and PRIME improvements, threaded input support, XWayland enhancements and more, GLAMOR improvements, the PRIME synchronization support, and a wide range of other changes. This is a big release with it being almost a year since X.Org Server 1.18 rather than the usual six month release cadence.

This release does break the ABIs requiring updated binary drivers. X.Org Server 1.19 is expected to be officially released before the end of October.
