X.Org Has Been Accepted For The 2017 Google Summer of Code

The X.Org Foundation has been once again accepted as a mentoring organization for this year's Google Summer of Code. Yes, the X.Org involvement in GSoC isn't limited to just the xorg-server but also covers Mesa, Wayland, and other involvements.

If you are a student and reading Phoronix, chances are you have an interest in Linux graphics, so what better way to get involved than via GSoC? The updated list of possible 2017 project ideas can be found via this X.Org Wiki page.

Among the possible project ideas for GSoC 2017 are improvements to APITrace, improving Mesa with greater VDPAU state tracker improvements, using Tizonia rather than Bellagio in the OpenMAX state tracker, soft double-precision FP support, a replacement to DriConf with a better GUI utility for managing Mesa driver settings, various possible improvements to Nouveau or Freedreno, and more.
