As Linus summed it up well when he released Linux 4.20 this weekend, "have a Merry Christmas or other holiday of your choice." 2018 was certainly great for Linux and open-source at large while 2019 should be even more exciting.

Another month is in the books as we approach the 15th birthday of Phoronix in June. This month on Phoronix there was a lot of interest in the major Linux kernel slowdown that ended up being attributed to "STIBP" but fortunately improvements are on the way, a lot of interest in Raptor Computing Systems' Talos II libre system and their lower-cost Blackbird board, excitement starting to heat up around Linux 4.21 changes, and the Mesa 18.3 release being on approach while Mesa 19.0 feature development is in full swing.

During the month of October on Phoronix there were 330 original news stories and 26 featured articles / Linux hardware reviews penned by your's truly.

Over the course of September on Phoronix were 308 original news articles and 22 featured Linux hardware reviews and benchmarking articles. There was a lot of interesting activity on the hardware side from continued Threadripper tests to the GeForce RTX 2080 series launch as well as interesting news from the Linux code of conduct to the controversial Speck crypto code being removed.

The third-quarter was extremely busy to say the least... There was so much going on from the notable Linux 4.19 kernel merge window, the exciting material queueing ahead of Linux 4.20~5.0, continued open-source graphics driver advancements, Valve announcing Steam Play / Proton, many Vulkan milestones, and countless other reasons for Linux and open-source fans to celebrate. On the hardware front was also extremely busy with the AMD Threadripper 2 launch, the recent GeForce RTX graphics card launch delivering great performance for Linux gamers but at a significant cost, and continued hardware testing around Spectre mitigation.

August 2018 was the busiest month in the open-source/Linux space and hardware in many months... So busy in fact your's truly wrote a combined total of 352 original articles over the course of August. Here's a look back at what made this month so exciting.

Another month is in the books with 280 original news articles and 24 featured Linux hardware reviews / featured articles. As with most months, there was a lot of interesting open-source and Linux progress this month, PC hardware continuing to work better under Linux, and the Linux kernel and other key projects continuing to mature gracefully.

June was another extremely busy month on Phoronix covering the Linux and open-source landscape with 311 original news articles and 24 featured hardware articles/reviews written by your's truly. June brought with it the start of the Linux 4.18 kernel cycle, a lot of interesting summer-time benchmarks, and more.

Here is a look back at the most popular Linux and open-source achievements and other covered news over the past 14 years.

It was on 5 June 2004 that I founded Phoronix.com for developing a Linux hardware review site while today also marks ten years since the public release of Phoronix Test Suite 1.0 for what would end up pushing forward open-source, cross-platform benchmarking.

Next week marks the 14th birthday of the founding of Phoronix.com as well as ten years since the initial stable release of the Phoronix Test Suite (v1.0) on 5 June. There is a lot of content queued up for the days ahead and more.

Of our 23 featured articles and 310 original news articles this month on Phoronix, here is a look back at the most popular open-source/Linux news and reviews to happen this month with our original daily content happening each and every day on Phoronix. Next week is also marked by the 14th birthday of Phoronix.

Happy May Day to those celebrating any events today, but as usual with the end of a month comes our recaps of the most popular Linux/open-source news over the month prior.

This month on Phoronix has been more than 320 original news stories and 22 featured Linux hardware reviews. Here's a look at what has been exciting readers the most this month, which includes the Raspberry Pi 3 Model B+ launch, Linux 4.16 maturing and Linux 4.17 being around the corner, Windows vs. Linux benchmarks, and much more.

Another month is in the books as we approach the 14th birthday of Phoronix. It was another eventful month with 293 original news articles and another 18 featured reviews/articles on the site along with many other benchmarks being a work-in-progress.

A majority of last month was spent looking at and testing/benchmarking the Linux code to mitigate the much talked about Spectre and Meltdown CPU vulnerabilities.

Aside from our 2017 year-end recap, if you were busy reliving the favorite moments of last year and missed some of our original content in December, here's a look back at the top highlights of last month.

We end 2017 on Phoronix with 3,390 original news posts on Phoronix this year and 369 featured articles/reviews.

This year on Phoronix there has been more than 3,700 original Linux/FLOSS news posts, benchmarks, hardware reviews and more. Here's how that compares to prior years.

Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas, and we wish you all the best for any and all holidays you may be celebrating as 2017 draws to a close.

Ending out November were 301 original news articles and 32 featured articles/reviews with most of the excitement pertaining to the Linux 4.14 kernel release, early excitement around the Linux 4.15 kernel, Linux distribution performance, and the continued advancements of the open-source AMD driver.

During October on Phoronix were 257 original news articles and 33 featured articles / reviews. There was a lot of exciting Linux hardware happenings during October!

During September on Phoronix, yours truly wrote 280 original news articles and 30 featured articles/reviews. There was a lot of exciting happenings last month but October and more broadly Q4 is looking to be even more exciting with a lot on the horizon.

Just a quick heads up for those that haven't noticed yet, HTTPS is now used by default across all of Phoronix.com as of this week.

The debut of the Radeon RX Vega graphics cards as well as the launch of the Ryzen Threadripper and getting more information on the Ryzen "performance marginality problem" occupied most of August.

AMD Ryzen continued to be a very popular area of interest by Phoronix readers as did our Linux vs. Windows benchmarks, among other hardware tests in July. Last month on Phoronix your's truly authored 23 featured articles/reviews and 290 news articles.

With the first half of the year in the books, here's a look back at our most popular articles on Phoronix for H1'2017. Written in the first six months of the year were 1,710 news items and 187 featured articles/reviews.

Last month was another eventful period on Phoronix and also as we celebrated the 13th birthday of Phoronix and the 9th of the Phoronix Test Suite. During June on Phoronix were 31 featured articles/reviews and 249 news items written by your's truly.

On Friday we launched the 2017 Linux Laptop Survey and as of this morning we're at nearly 12,000 results so far (11,879 as of writing). While there's still more than one week left to fill in the survey, here's how things are looking so far.

It has been a few years since last running any Linux hardware surveys on Phoronix, as overall the ecosystem has rather matured nicely while of course there are still notable improvements to be had in the areas of GPUs and laptops. (Additionally, OpenBenchmarking.org provides a plethora of analytic capabilities when not seeking to collect subjective data / opinions.) But now we are hosting the 2017 Linux Laptop Survey to hopefully further improvements in this area.

Just days after celebrating nine years since the Phoronix Test Suite 1.0 release, Phoronix Test Suite 7.2-Trysil is now officially available.

Phoronix is now officially a teenager, with it marking 13 years since I founded Phoronix.com. Today also marks nine years since the release of Phoronix Test Suite 1.0-Trondheim for advancing open-source benchmarking.

With the first quarter of 2017 drawing to a close next week, here's a look back at the most popular news stories and articles so far this year on Phoronix. Year to date on Phoronix there have already been 842 original news articles and 91 featured articles and Linux hardware reviews.

February 2017 was rather exciting for Linux enthusiasts with the big Vulkan update ahead of GDC, some fresh Windows 10 vs. Linux benchmarks, AMD Ryzen on the horizon, Intel Kabylake providing lots of testing fun, and other open-source advancements.

OpenBenchmarking.org, the cloud component to the Phoronix Test Suite for providing a centralized results storage location for analysis as well as hosting all of the test profiles and test suites so they can be downloaded independently of the Phoronix Test Suite version, has reached a new milestone. Just moments ago, OpenBenchmarking.org crossed the threshold of delivering 22 million test profile and test suite downloads since the Phoronix Test Suite 3.0 premiere in February of 2011.

There's been a lot of exciting events so far in 2017 from the rapid progress of Mesa's OpenGL and Vulkan drivers, other significant Vulkan milestones, Intel Kabylake desktop CPUs hitting the market, Linux 4.10 nearing release, Linux 4.11's merge window being right around the corner, and much more. Here's a recap.
