Unvanquished remains one of the most advanced open-source, cross-platform games available that comes free with an advanced OpenGL 3 renderer. For those curious how it performs for Intel and AMD Radeon graphics on Ubuntu Linux, here's a number of benchmarks using the latest release.

Unvanquished Alpha 26 was released a few days back and it's their best release yet. Besides boasting new renderer and graphics improvements, Unvanquished 0.26 also has all of the improvements I've been collaborating with Unvanquished improvements in recent months about for seeing that it's suitable for automated benchmarking and can be incorporated into the Phoronix Test Suite and OpenBenchmarking.org in terrific ways.

The Phoronix Test Suite has now been updated to use this latest release of Unvanquished with the necessary engine improvements having been made for better handling our automated test requirements, etc. To run automated and full reproducible benchmarks of this open-source game on Linux and Windows platforms it's as easy as running phoronix-test-suite benchmark unvanquished.

To celebrate these improvements being made, I ran a variety of open-source driver tests with this game's test profile. The tests were limited to AMD Radeon and Intel HD Graphics hardware as the NVIDIA GeForce GPUs would end up generating DRM errors when running Unvanquished with its advanced visual settings. The GPUs tested out-of-the-box on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS with this latest Unvanquished version include:

- Radeon HD 5830
- Radeon HD 6450
- Radeon HD 6770
- Radeon HD 6870
- Radeon HD 6950
- Radeon HD 7950
- Radeon R9 270X
- Intel HD Graphics 4600
