Trying The Configurable 45 Watt TDP With AMD's A10-7800 / A6-7400K

AMD Kaveri APUs feature a configurable TDP whereby users can opt to run their A-Series APUs with a lower power consumption and operating temperature but at the cost of slightly reduced performance.

With the recently released A10-7800 and A6-7400K APUs, AMD has "optimized" the hardware for a 45 Watt configurable TDP. In this article are some benchmarks of both APUs when running them at their stock setting (65 Watt TDP) and then via the ASUS UEFI BIOS setting the 45 Watt TDP value for both APUs.

First up are our raw performance benchmarks for both APUs showing the stock and reduced TDP settings followed by some power consumption results on the later pages for the A10-7800 to see how the performance-per-Watt is affected. All of the benchmarking was done via the Phoronix Test Suite along with the power monitoring, which was interfacing with the WattsUp Pro USB AC power meter.

This testing is quite straightforward so let's jump immediately to the results.
