Noctua i4 CPU Cooler: Great For Cooling High-End LGA-2011v3 CPUs

When receiving the new Intel Xeon E5-1680 v3 and E5-2687W v3 CPUs, the CPU heatsink I switched to using for cooling the eight and ten core workstation/server processors was the Noctua i4 CPU Cooler (NH-U9DXi4). I've now been using this heatsink for over a month and it's been working out great for my range of LGA-2011 v3 CPUs.

Aside from having used the Noctua i4 NH-U9DXi4 with the two aforementioned Xeon LGA-2011v3 CPUs, I've also used this dual-fan heatsink with the Intel Core i7 5960X Haswell-E too. While CPU heatsinks are seldom reviewed these days at Phoronix since there really isn't a Linux spin to the story, I just wanted to pass along my recommendation and fondness of this Noctua heatsink for use with LGA-2011 systems.

Besides the LGA-2011 socket, the NH-U9DX i4 is also compatible with Intel's LGA-1356 and LGA-13566 sockets too. This heatsink features two high-end NF-B9 92mm PWM fans, a copper base and heatpipes, and aluminum cooling fins. The heatsink with fans weigh 640 grams, require a 120mm height clearance for the large heatsink, and come with NT-H1 thermal compound plus all of the hardware needed for mounting this heatsink on supported Intel CPU sockets. The NH-U9DX i4 is backed by the Austrian-based Noctua company with a six year product warranty.
