For those curious how Ubuntu 17.04 is shaping up, considering this week was the "beta" release for participating flavors, I decided to take a fresh Ubuntu 17.04 x86_64 daily ISO and see how its performance compares to Ubuntu 16.10, Clear Linux 13600, Antergos 17.2, and openSUSE Tumbleweed.

All the tests happened on the same system with an Intel Xeon E3-1280 v5 (3.7GHz base, 4.0GHz turbo), MSI C236A WORKSTATION motherboard, 16GB DDR4, 256GB Toshiba RD400 NVMe SSD, and AMD Radeon RX 470 graphics.

Each system was cleanly installed and tested out-of-the-box for this latest Linux distribution comparison. More Ubuntu 17.04 benchmarks will come when its release nears in April. Ubuntu 17.04 is currently using the Linux 4.10 kernel, Unity 7.5, X.Org Server 1.18.4, Mesa 13.0.4, and GCC 6.3.0. All of these Linux OS benchmarks were carried out in a fully-automated and reproducible manner using the open-source Phoronix Test Suite benchmarking software.
