RADV vs. NVIDIA Vulkan/OpenGL Performance For Serious Sam 2017

Yesterday I published some initial RADV Vulkan benchmarks for Serious Sam 2017, their "fusion" update to Serious Sam HD: The First Encounter. In this article are some comparison NVIDIA Linux Vulkan benchmark figures.

I didn't have NVIDIA Vulkan numbers to publish yesterday since I was running into a segmentation fault. When consulting Croteam, their Linux testing has been done with NVIDIA's Vulkan beta driver where as with this latest Sam2017 testing I was trying the 378.13 beta driver release. When switching instead to the NVIDIA 375.27.14 beta Vulkan driver, the game proceeded to run fine with Vulkan on GeForce GPUs. This Vulkan beta driver is largely focused on VR Vulkan extensions, but it seems Serious Sam 2017 in the non-VR mode still prefers this driver. Just as a notice in case others using the 378 stable series are running into any problems too.

The NVIDIA cards I used for testing were the GeForce GTX 780 Ti, GTX 970, GTX 980, GTX 980 Ti, GTX 1050, GTX 1050 Ti, GTX 1060, GTX 1070, GTX 1080, and GTX 1080 Ti with the 375.27.14 beta driver. On the AMD side was the Radeon RX 480 and R9 Fury when using the Linux 4.11 kernel DRM paired with Mesa 17.1-dev built against LLVM 5.0 SVN.

Radeon vs. NVIDIA Serious Sam 2017 Linux Gaming Tests

All of these Serious Sam 2017 Vulkan/OpenGL Linux benchmarks were driven in a fully-automated and reproducible manner using the open-source Phoronix Test Suite benchmarking software.
