Phoronix: ReiserFS File-System Expected To Be Removed With Linux 6.13

With ReiserFS having been deprecated for two years with plans to remove it in 2025, the upcoming Linux 6.13 cycle for what will be the first major kernel release of the new year and past the Linux 6.12 LTS kernel is expected to do just that... ReiserFS is set to be stripped from the mainline kernel codebase...

Wow I can remember back to one of my first Linux installs hearing Reiser was the FS of the future, so I used it. The the 🤬 storm of politics around it and eventually EXT3 and EXT4 were bulletproof. Godspeed, deprecated FS.

It was a great filesystem back in time where mostly there was ext2/3, Mostly for a lot of small files.

Okay I am gonna do it because its probably the last chance to do it:

Yes its time to finally kill reiserfs, Just too bad reiser could not kill it himself.

Michael should have posted this article then turned off comments for it since this topic invites nothing but derisive & tasteless comments that add nothing of value ... except for being clickbait.

ReiserFS was a more performant filesystem at the cost of slightly high CPU usage than the other available filesystems on Linux in the late 90s and early 2000s. Unfortunately the team behind it continued working on it for many more years when it was clear that they should have moved on.
It's possible that forking the code to a new project with a new name could have helped avoid the obvious problems it faced, but that never happened either.

What happened to the new filesystem by the remaining maintainer(s)?
