Phoronix: AMDGPU 18.0 X.Org Driver Released

It had been a half-year since the release of the last AMDGPU DDX release, xf86-video-amdgpu 1.4.0, but today that has been succeeded by xf86-video-amdgpu 18.0 as they also embark on a year-based versioning scheme...

I do wish more software went with a year based major version number! It just makes life easier.

I'm sure it's to sync up with Mesa.

I don't mind having a bump every year say Wine 2.x -> Wine 3.x, though I am not sure if I care for jumping from 1.x to 18.x

Wine is at 3.3 and so it makes sense to me that it's the 3rd release of this year.

Then again it will be easier to track 18.x against whatever GPU's were released in 2017 / 2018 and more easily directly compare the maturity of the driver against current GPUs.

Seems like it just loses information? Major version == binary incompatibility. Year-based == who knows?
