With Debian having been added to the Microsoft Store earlier this month for running Debian 9 on Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL) plus in wanting to do some fresh updates prior to Microsoft shipping their Spring Creators Update, here are some fresh benchmarks of various Linux distributions and their raw performance, the current major Linux distributions available on WSL, and then also the native Windows 10 performance in the various supported tests.

That's a lot of mixed results, but it does seem that Clear Linux is either on par with or better than Windows in most cases.

The other oprating systems performed about the same speed with this benchmark.

CacheBench read is so surprising.

openSUSE 42.3 has packages PHP 5/7, similar to most distributions have Python2/3 or Java 7/8

Yesterday I found out that most of the performance hit WSL has comes from Windows Defender not liking what WSL does.

Did you have Windows Defender on or off in those tests?

I noticed Ubuntu on WSL was way too slow here, but disabling Windows Defender made it perform much better.

You can always add an exception for the WSL path, %userprofile%\appdata\local\lxss

Unfortunately, that doesn't work, according to several users.
