They don't have any replacements, that would cost a ton, and it can be mitigated through software. U.S. courts would never go for it anyway.

this is the second "dieselgate" for intel: in the 2009 it was discovered that the intel compiler, the one used to compile some popular benchmarks, was disabling optimizations on non-intel cpus (the famous "cripple AMD" function), misleading benchmarks and thus the price/performance ratio of amd cpus

today, the meltdown attack highlighted that the hardware was an oversimplified version and after the fixes it is a 10% slower and thus misleading benchmarks and price/performances ratio....

It's not serious enough to have PR issues for them (which is relative, Intel's near-domination of x86 marketshare does make even big fuckups a very small PR issue).

AMD did issue the RMAs for PR reasons only, it's not like they would have any issue with consumers on linux not being able to use their product.
