Does this live distro have its root filesystem mounted as persistent storage?

All the other distros recently switched to squashfs or the like, making every live session nonpersistent.

Which is very annoying because when I rendered my system unbootable and want to restore a backup I made with timeshift using a live session from USB, I need to switch keyboard layout, load wifi driver modules, reenter the wifi passphrase, update package lists and install timeshift before I can restore any backup. This used to be a one-time-only setup thing.

      Hi elvenbone,

I think you could try any distro system rescue mode, or systemrescuecd for that if you want to use something from your local installation. Or you can chroot.

Knoppix idea is = DO NOT TOUCH ANYTHING ON LOCAL HARD DRIVE.

No but it does not need to. Decent live distros can use an additional filesystem overlayed on top of the squashfs to store your changes. This is usually created inside a file, so it is very portable and does not confuse Windows. Knoppix does this automatically with an "installer" tool http://www.knopper.net/knoppix/knoppix-flash-en.html

As does Ubuntu if you hack it a bit manually https://help.ubuntu.com/community/LiveCD/Persistence or use a tool that does it for you. (this isn't the only one, most can do it) http://www.easy2boot.com/add-payload...ce-isopersist/

I think elven bone wants live cd to take his specific configs and driver blobs installed/setup on a disk. This is done by rescue modes of OS install disks, but these do not have GUI.
