Before I opened up the comments, I thought to myself: "I'm pretty sure the first reply is going to be a political one". Turns out I was right.

Racism is when a 5% minority of the population wants at least a 50% representation instead of 5%.

        Math isn't their forte, obviously.

I was think more about the unfriendless of the airport security, where there is a well documented abuse of authority, equipment confiscation and the notorious "gime your passwords or else" attitude. None of witch is very comforting for people on the IT sector.

Hopefully they are looking to hold it in canada for the visitors sake. As discussing anything relating to security for the xorg related software would be unadviseable if held in the us of A. Or perhaps they were thinking of holding it in Newfoundland to reduce the costs of cooling the computers? Either option would avoid their passwords and baggage from being stolen by the airport's prisoners.

No, racism is when you discriminate people based on where they are from, their face, and colour. When they trigger happy shoot people because they are not white, put kids in concentration camps, call them "infesting" and cockraoaches, and such. They should have learned the lesson from the WWII history books, and not repeat the same mistakes just shy of 100 years later again.

Exactly, which is what you did on all Americans and their state right now. You know, just because you discriminate against the majority (white people in USA) does not make it any less racist.

Where did he discriminate against white people? Where did he discriminate against people at all? He just claimed that the US is a racist state (though country would have been a better word), and for all that the world has seen in the last few weeks alone this claim seems to be true. But then, this is what the right wingers and Nazis do, all over the world: They claim to be the victims. Black people being shot by the police, people calling the police on black people for no reason, discrimination against Muslims, ripping refugee families apart, followed by detaining toddlers and children in concentration camps, ..., everything well documented, but somehow white people in the US are the victims.

In all seriousness, the US is a racist country and at this time no safe place for a meeting of developers from all over the world, with different skin colors and religions. Canada would be a much better place for a convention.

No, he said that the state/nation has obvious racism issues.

"racist state" != "all citizens of this state are racist"

Really this is just "above average" English complexity.

Also, "Americans" != "only USA citizens". Everyone from Canada to Peru and neighbors are technically Americans.

You can shorten "USA citizens" to "'Murcans" though, as that's how they call themselves in their weird accent.
