      The past few kernels have been hardening the EXT4 kernel code due to EXT4 container images that are maliciously corrupted could lead to some possible exploits.... Not sure if there has been any actual cases reported publicly in the real-world, but the past few cycles have seen a number of changes preventing against these intentionally modified EXT4 images.
