Phoronix: Linux 5.1 Should Sound Great... Well, At Least Work With More Audio Hardware

The sound subsystem updates were submitted today for the upcoming Linux 5.1 kernel cycle. The pull request was submitted early due to the maintainer Takashi Iwai of SUSE traveling next week, but this is another exciting PR for audio hardware on Linux...

Great latency and drivers. Then comes pulseaudio with great kernel configs, e.g. "
      Pre-allocated buffer size for HD-audio driver @ 4096.

I just want my SkyLake laptop audio to finally work. What's it been, like 3 or 4 years now? Still broken. WTF?!

lol laptop audio. Just get a proper USB DAC and do your ears a favor.

Lots of fixes for es8316 makes me happy. This is the sound card I have in my tablet and I failed to fix speakers output on 4.20 (works only for headphones).

And on Windows I am sure it works perfectly. Why wouldn't it under Linux?

                    I'm guessing it's because of speech-dispatcher?

Even worse ALC1220 recording is still 100% unusable on Pulseaudio and crackling/popping on ALSA.
