Now hang on a minute... They have't had a developer with the necessary rights since their 17.04 release? Assuming that their 17.04 release launched alongside everyone, they've had just short of two years to sort this one out.

Either they've really forgetful or then they need much better project management.

You do not need ubuntu servers for a distribution. With simple-cdd it is simple to create any kind of Debian based distribution. You define packages that your distribution uses. There are many free hosts for the installer iso file.

Simple-cdd is a limited, though relatively easy to use tool to create a customized DebianInstaller CD.

And you still nedd to host/seed that somewhere for distribution.

That's tangential. Linux Mint has very limited manpower yet they still have downstream repositories and download servers (and mirrors).

The point here is that these three individuals want to be able to use the name "Ubuntu" aka be an official respin, and for that yuou need to be able to have commit access to the actual repos and other infrastructure needed for the official release.

Every distro worth anything has spins. Debian/Ubuntu, Fedora/Redhat, Arch... you name it. And spins still add value by providing exposure for the upstream.

Who cares? Ubuntu Studio can easily be reproduced by taking Ubuntu, adding Mate desktop, installing the low latency kernel and you're done.

They are "maintaining" (repackaging from Debian Testing/Unstable, probably) the Ubuntu packages of the other applications that are used in Ubuntu Studio apparently. In the announcement they are talking about a large amount of changes, so that they had issues finding someone to commit them on their behalf

With 19.04, currently in development, we made some pretty significant changes. However, when I went looking for a MOTU to help with uploading, I had trouble finding someone willing to sponsor & upload that many changes.

IMPOSSIBLE!!! I mean - how would you EVER get all those default multimedia software packages to load??? I mean, other than apt-get, or the Software Center, or snap, or appimage, or compiling from source, or ...

Linux and audio... Haven't really cared for messing with it for a long time, but it seems that Oss v4 has been updated first time since 2017. It was so much better with quality and latency than alsa moons ago, maybe I try that one day for the old time sake.
