Phoronix: Etnaviv Is Packing Code For An Exciting Linux 5.4 Cycle

While Freedreno and Panfrost have been steaming ahead when it comes to open-source, reverse-engineered graphics for Arm SoCs, the Etnaviv project for targeting Vivante graphics hasn't had too much to report on recently. Fortunately, that's changing as coming up for the Linux 5.4 cycle they have a lot of new code to introduce...

They should probably focus on Vulkan instead (a lot less work and actually is more important), and provide OpenGL support through Zink. Prioritizing native OpenGL (humongous task) over Vulkan sounds like a bad idea.

Given that they can re-use most of the state tracker, NIR, and other validation pieces from mesa, it may not be terrible. Assuming they've properly modularized their code, a bunch of the GL stuff could be re-usable for a vulkan effort as well.
