Phoronix: Apple macOS 10.15 vs. Windows 10 vs. Ubuntu 19.10 Performance Benchmarks

In addition to this month bringing the release of the Ubuntu 19.10 "Eoan Ermine", Apple also shipped macOS 10.15 "Catalina" as the sixteenth major release of their macOS operating system. So with that it makes for an interesting time seeing how macOS 10.15 competes against both Ubuntu 19.10 and Windows 10 on an Apple MacBook Pro. Here are those results from dozens of benchmarks.

    Michael
XZ compression was the fastest on Ubuntu.
Either that is a typo or the graphic above it is wrong.

Imagine how bad it would be if OSX wasn't *optimized* for this specific hardware.

And this is a trillion dollar company. Crazy.

Typo, graphics aren't wrong, they are auto-generated.

It's like they didn't even bother to add "mtune=generic march=skylake" to their compiler options. You'd think a trillion dollar company would have the resources to do generic+optimized builds for their current systems and not rely on "mtune=generic march=generic".

            unfair benchmark

opengl is deprecated on macOS, comparing directx 12 vs metal 2 would be more fair

and final conclusion, you mix both "unfair" gpu + cpu benchmarks, you should have split them to be fair, seeing windows top 1 just because of GPU driver perf is disgusting

Surprising results all around. Thank you for the tests.

                These benchmarks are trash, sorry.

                no -march=xxx? Oh boy!

Does Apple use open-source compilers to compile their stack like GCC or Clang? Or do they use an in-house compiler?

Throw out the opengl tests and OSX still brings up the rear. Sorry fanboy.

I may be retarded, but at least I know how to spell and use punctuation and capitalization.
