Instrumentation of all kinds is useful. There is are various old adages, "If you do not measure it, you can't manage (or improve) it" or "If you did not measure it, it did not happen". None of which are completely accurate, of course, but all reflect the general agreement that less information rarely results in better understanding or results. And especially for the larger organizations having tools to more quickly understand or react or improve operations even a small amount can be a big thing. And programmatic access (rather than log scraping) is absolutely the right way to go.

I'd really like socket listen/close events. That would allow you to actually implement services depending on what's actually exposed by another service. Then you wouldn't need a notification mechanism like sd-notify anymore.
